Sorrows Path - Resurrection
Yeah, I want to like this stuff but it's just too hard to get past the sloppy instrumentation -- out of tune guitars and absolutely horrendous singing voice of Sorrows Path, I mean really bad. You know Peter Murphy was able to pull off the gothed-out horror vibrato singing style with the Bauhaus, but the singer in this band just can't sing, which kind of ruins the whole effect. Yeah, I read the review by Chris CountRaven of Doom-metal.com which says the singer Angelos is "still exploring new worlds of melody in every single line." Yeah, that's one way of saying he can't sing in tune, and that's not the only thing that's out of tune. The guitar player Kostas Salomidis (granted was in horribly bad health for a while and should be complimented for making a courageous comeback) is out of tune, there are added violin parts which are out of tune, and the drummer is not in time. The most competent musician is the bass player who is trying to hold everything down but it is already too much of a disaster. Too bad too because this kind of moody atmospheric music they are trying to create would really sound great with some competent musicianship.
