StrangeFeelings - One More Last Day

On their sophomore effort, StrangeFeelings continue down their path of merging Power Metal with Death Metal. Due to accents, this Czech band is a bit hard to understand at times, but the music thankfully is very catchy and makes up for any lack of translation in the vocals. StrangeFeelings' style is very straightforward- take a musical structure of Power Metal and toss on top of it some Death Metal vocals. Of couse, with the raw singing that is involved too some might consider the band moving more towards a Groove Metal outlet when considering a track like "Green Hell." Other tracks like "Their Eyes" are more Death Metal influenced, but it is a very gray area and not as clean cut as hearing a band like Behemoth hammer out their style of vocals over Power Metal music.

Despite some repetition here and there within the musical structure- the base collection of guitars, bass, vocals and drums leaves little for more progressive element that other bands use- the band tries to mix things up here and there. Despite many slow paced, rhythmic tracks like "Closing The Gates Of Senses" which is quite raw in its distortion, there are a few slower tracks that are much more melodic and cleaner. "Balance" feels more like a Jazz Prog track that is a complete 180 shift from the churning track before it, but it serves as a nice interlude. Others like "Bad News" is more sci-fi Prog and ambient with little guitar at all. Still, these small bits serve a great purpose at making StrangeFeelings more than just a 'generic Metal band.' In fact, tracks like "Bad News" are excellent at adding some mystery to the music overall- no matter how out of place. It is a shame the band did not make more use of this kind of interlude within the rest of the album.
