Strangulate - Catacombs Of Decay

This is total raging death metal, in the classic US style from India, and another fine release from this distribution label. Strangulate remind me a lot of Deicide and Cannibal Corpse, mainly due to those running, almost bumblebee/spider riffs that splatter this exciting release consistently from start to finish. The level of musicianship is cool, the sound and production, well, this is pretty spot on too. Not sure if you are supposed to be so happy listening to a death metal release, but that’s what I am when you get into ‘Humanity’s End’, the deft precision and execution is immense.

When the time and tempo changes occur, the drums fit and set that standard for the music, this flows really well for such a raw and honest style, getting the balance between heritage and technicality just right. There isn’t a stand out track, they all fit the bill, care has clearly been taken in the arrangements and for such a style Strangulate could have easily followed the overtly technical route, but thankfully, they have remained honest and true to the style and produced a really cool death metal album that can sit happily alongside some of the styles classic releases.
