Talsur/Doomcult - Nameless

Nameless is a split album of east versus west by Talsur from Russia & Doomcult from the Netherlands. Both produced 2 new songs and cover a song of the other.
Talsur recorded his version of Doomcults song 'Wrath' from his first album "End All Life".
Doomcult made his own interpretation of Talsur’s song 'Waters Of Loss' from his album "Tormented".

First a little back ground info: Talsur started in 2015 as a one man band, already made a few albums and each of them is different but dark, doom and funeral but very accessible for all metal lovers. But for all dark doom fans explore also his other albums because I find them interesting. I find his music refreshing and very accessible for someone who is starting to listen to doom metal.

Doomcult started in 2015 by J.G. Arts in the south of the Netherlands and also as a one man band. He makes very dark doom metal on the debut album "End All Life" and his second album "Life Must End" are a taste of what’s coming next.

Now let’s review "Nameless".

'All Ready Dead' starts of for me as a theme song for a video game (The Last of Us) for example.
It has a nice dark and heavy sound as if you’re walking through the dark maze of a church or castle. Some how it sounds comfortable, as a blanket of trust with some screams in the back ground. 'The Fatal Hour' starts acoustic but when Talsur starts to sing, I find his voice sound like a monk, super nice. I love this song maybe due to the fact that he uses keyboards which makes the song. Talsur’s interpretation of Doomcult’s song 'Wrath', the raw voice in this song suits, it give’s the song the rawness it needs I think.

Now the songs by Doomcult. I love 'Nails' because the sound looks to me a little bit like the early "Seatle Sound" (Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains) only darker, meant this as a compliment.
'Palque' is pleasant to listen to, heavy and dark true old school nothing more nothing less.
Then Doomcult’s cover of 'Water Of Loss' by Talsur is the essence of how doom should sound like, dark and depressing, well done Doomcult.

This album is how I see doom metal, I find it pleasant to listen to. I didn’t know them at all so I started listening to other albums of these guys and I like what I’m hearing.
So if you want something new to listen? Listen to both and pick the one you like. This album is a good example of what East meets West can produce, nicely done.
