The Ascendant - The Spiritual Death EP

So who doesn't like the drummer in Marduk? Exactly no one.... Well here is Lars in his side project called The Ascendant with their first release. This might be two songs but I'd rather listen to this prestine EP than some mediocre full length.

The intro to "The Becoming" is quite enthralling and builds on the anticipation of hearing the rest of the track. It stays fresh with nice dynamics. The sections are brutal with blast beats and slaying riffs. You feel as if your running until the pain in your chest is so huge you fall to the ground. Covered in mud you look up to curse the sky. Slowly you regain your legs and trudge towards your destination. The guitarist also incorporates nice picked chords that create smooth melodies. "Witness The Glorious Creation" feels like a ten minute epic but it's not even seven minutes. This happens because you get so sucked into the song progression you lose track of time. It's not power metal in the least but I swear I feel some Wintersun vibe going on in a minimal way here. This is a great organic production and in no way reminds me of Marduk. This is a good thing of course. No one wants a side project sounding like the main band.

I can't wait until they release a full length. If your a fan of Lars' drumming in Marduk then you need to listen to this. This isn't even a tease cause it's just that good. Very satisfied and thirsty for more.
