The Curse Of Millhaven - Thresholds

The Curse Of Millhaven was founded in 2012, the band members (Jasper, Jeroen, Kurt, Bram and Bart) al live in their hometown Ypres a well know place in Belgium. After a few years of perfecting their sound and writing songs the band was ready to go to the studio and record their first album "Vestibule Of Hell" in 2014, this album was wel received and The Curse Of Millhaven played some shows and even opened up for the band Vital Remains.

In 2017 the band came together stretch out their capabilities and created the album "Plagues", this album tells the story about the 9 layers of hell and was again wel receive, but The Curse Of Millhaven still pushed on, and in 2019 their latest work "Thresholds" was finished. "Death is what I will create", this line is one that will stick in your head for a while because of the sheer brutality. It's part of the song 'Thresholds', a heavy opening song on the album. The cooperation of the guitars and the drums in this song is also very tight and professional, it just makes me want to headbang.

Between al the violence on the album "Thresholds" is an acoustic song named 'Enlightenment', its very gentile but when the song ends, another one kicks in. 'My Reign My Wrath' begins with a very groovy first part of the song but after the first part the second more faster and brutal part begins with blast beats and even more fast guitar playing and finally a heavy breakdown.

This album is worth listening to because the overall performance and productivity of not only the musicians but also the technicians. The variety between screams and low pitcht grunts on this album is also a contributing factor to the music and only proves that the singer is very capable in what he is doing. The guitars are also very well on this album you have to remember that it is not easy to come up with a guitar riff and make a song with several other riffs. Sometimes it feels like the guitars are spinning out of control in several songs. The bass guitar is sliding very smooth between the different riffs and rhythms in the songs and together with the drums it is forming a very solid construction in the music. This is something that often is overlooked when you are listening to music because the mostly the guitars and vocals are very dominating.

The Curse Of Millhaven have stretched their limits and really surprised me with the album "Thresholds".
