The Drip - A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics
This is the third EP from US grindcore masochists The Drip, a brutal bunch of blokes who make a tidy racket akin with modern grindcore that’s sweating its way through the marketplace at the moment and this label. The release does not throw out any surprises so that could be in its favour or it could be a limiting factor. What is on offer from something like ‘Lash In, Lash Out’ is a modern style, particularly the vocals which I find a little overbearing, too much like screaming. The guitar sound is fully distorted to a point where clarity poses a question on particular sound set ups. When played on other sound units, its better, but still very fuzzy, it’s more a wall of sound than anything else, but it does work for this style in some respects.
The artwork and band logo is very striking, very cool, something that is really positive, it leaves a few first impressions and this is matched with the music within. There are six tracks to choose from, all are over in a short flash so there are many repeat plays required to get a good feel for this release. All in all, not a bad release, but I wouldn’t necessarily herald this as one of the top grind releases in recent times.
