The Saints Of Pain - Killing Jar

Hailing from NYC, USA, The Saints Of Pain have caused a local stir since their inception early this decade. They describe themselves as “a dirt metal, high energy, shot of 100 proof tequila from the communion chalice… a 50% Salvation, 50% damnation mix of singer/songwriter croon and bone jarring metal drenched in raw unrefined emotions.” The band profess to draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, Slayer, Fear Factory, In Flames and My Dying Bride among them. Their self-titled full length, released in 2007, contains emotions as diverse as their influences, most of them encompassing the darker side of human nature. What’s best about The Saints Of Pain is they deny nothing and offer no apologies for putting across feelings most people would deem negative such as anger, rage, loss, deep depression and despair. The band are adept at pointing out these emotions are as human as the brighter emotions it has always been acceptable to put across in the pop mainstream. The soundtrack to their explorations into these darker emotions pick up where most aboveground metal bands left off, increasing their heaviness and dedication by 1000 per cent. If the introductory sample taken from the horror classic The Exorcist (“what an excellent day for an exorcism“) is any indication of where they intend to go with their material in the future, we can expect the Saints Of Pain to reflect on society’s failings for a long time to come. The band’s drummer Uriel also plays for the hardcore/death/thrash band Behind Walls Of Silence.
