The Soulless - Isolated
The Soulless, formerly known as Ignominious Incarceration, have released their first full length album under their new moniker. Previously their work was more along the lines of death metal but with this release they have ventured into the mainstream metalcore. Although they label themselves a death metal outfit, there isn't any death metal going on here. It's great when a band experiments with a new original sound, but metalcore is hardly a new sound nor is it very original. Which leaves this album fairly mundane.
The highlight of the album is the guitar work. The guitars are quite impressive on this release. They are technical, fast, and intricate. I wish I could say more about this album but there isn't much else going on here. The vocals are good, but they are repetitive. Not much fluctuation in tone or variety tends to bore the listener rather quickly. The drums? Standard...just what you would expect on a metalcore album.
Overall this is just another metalcore release to add to the pile. More originality and self-expression would serve these guys well. The talent is there, but the originality is not.
