Trup – Szmula

Trup are a three piece from Poland swing between sludge and grindcore with a black metal glue holding it altogether.

Kicking off with two tracks just over a minute long each. They are grind on the surface but really they sound like they are made up on the spot. There are no song titles by the way they are just numbered so tracks 1 & 2 are called 7 & 8, you get the concept.

We then get three interesting tracks that are mid-paced. There’s a good riff and groove on '9'. '12' brings back the grind and this one isn’t actually bad, it brings a bit of chaos and brings to mind a bit of Pig Destroyer. '13' kicks back and forth between intermittent sections of screaming over feedback and the closing track '14' doesn’t really make up for much either.

I struggled with this album and I hate to write stuff off. To give Trup their fair credit they conjured up a grim atmosphere and I’d imagine this would work better in a live setting. I put this down as a weird EP and their best is yet to come.
