Tuchulcha - Legions Of Etruria

Italy is not famous for its death metal scene. Actually there are some great bands that originate from Italy, but usually when the discussion ends in Italy, it is always about dragons, swords, fires, chicks on high heels and power metal, emo - gothic and stuff like that! Tuchulcha is a band that comes from Italy, and play death metal! "Legions Of Etruria" is their first full length and official release for 2013, succeeding their 2011 EP and only release so far  "Reflection Of God". So we're talking about an almost newborn band here when it comes to releases, and to a well trained death metal ear, that comes easy on the first encounter with their full. Mostly mid tempo, and not much of speed limit breakers, those Italians. No matter what their tempo is, their material sounds actually good! It is what the old schoolers would call it. Honest! Yes, that's the word. These guys are neither the technical beasts from outer space, nor the slow thinking gumbas that cannot play three notes in a row without fucking it up! Their technical skill is good, they know it and apparently they only go up until their skills allow them, without trying  failed exaggerations  and technicalities out of their reach. Trying everything possible in their grip lads. And that to me sounds, honest!

Musically, they can be described as a mixture of Cannibal Corpse, Malevolent Creation, Six Feet Under on their groovy parts and along with them add some Morbid Angel atmosphere, and more or less you'll get the point of Tuchulcha's musical wavelength! The production of this album is very clear. Crystal I would say, allowing everything to be heard, and giving every instrument a special place in the whole recording! Of course such clarity can be a black spot in a record such as this. I mean, everything is crystal clear and to some this may sound too much. Death metal should be a little dirty!! The guitars themes and riffs actually are not so complex, so a little mud on the production wouldn't cause chaos. On the other hand it would make this whole album sound more heavy. Not that it lacks heaviness, but if we have to be thorough, that is something we can't let go without a bullet!

Other than that, "Legions Of Etruria" is a really nice album to check. It's got everything a death metaler wants for a chilling night on the sofa next to the fireplace hehe. You won't rediscover the wheel with those Italian breakers here, but you will have a pleasant time listening to death metal and after all that's what we all seek from music aren't we? So, first album for Tuchulcha, and what a nice start for the most promising continuation. Hails!
