Unaussprechlichen Kulten – Teufelsbücher

I am absolutely confused on how I have never heard of this band before since they have been around since 1999 and releasing full lengths since 2005. Especially confusing since they are a very original, odd sounding death metal band and that area of death metal is an area I explore and have explored extremely heavily. Yet, alas, I had not but now I have been converted and see the missteps along the way. For now I have been enlightened onto the path that has led me finally to Unaussprechlichen Kulten and their new, outstanding, album, "Teufelsbücher".

As I stated earlier, Unaussprechlichen Kulten are an original, odd sounding death metal band. Not odd like Portal odd but maybe a little more like early Gorguts odd, where they are still firmly rooted in death metal construction but play around a bit. It's not so original and odd that it makes you question whether you are actually really listening to a death metal band or is it a prog band who uses death metal as a "tone." This is death metal but death metal with style and personality from a band who obviously knows who they are and uses that to their strength. Plus, thanks to YouTube I now have a better understanding of this band and their apparently unmistakable sound, that aforementioned strength. It's a sound that is epic, majestic and beautiful all while still being brutal, crushing and devastating.

Unaussprechlichen Kulten are a surprising find for me in general here. This Chilean powerhouse's style sounds most like a personalized take on a mix of Immolation and Morbid Angel, well, more like Trey is playing with Immolation. So, you got my two favorite death metal bands right there, which makes their sound something I really enjoy and think you all will. Also, they are very meticulous in crafting their albums, from the songwriting to the Lovecraftian and classic horror based themes they tirelessly write about, it all just tugs at my heart strings.

All in all Unaussprechlichen Kulten's "Teufelsbücher" is an, as i said before, outstanding record from a band that apparently has a whole discography of outstanding stuff I should love and you should too. But start with "Teufelsbücher", or where ever, just be sure to check these guys out, you will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't.
