Unfathomable Ruination - Enraged & Unbound
Here we have the third full-length album of England's death metal band Unfathomable Ruination. Their metal-archives page says something curious about them: In 2014 they performed on a sidewalk in London locked in an air-tight box and they played until their air supply ran low. So those guys are not afraid to go to the extremes. It is no wonder then that "Enraged & Unbound" is extremism to the maximum level.
First thing that makes an impression is the arty cover artwork done by the incredible artist Eliran Kantor, who had made covers for bands such as Testament, Soulfly, Bloodbath just to name a few. The production is done by Neil Kernon, famous for his work with Cannibal Corpse and Deicide, so expect a great wall of sound where each instrument can be clearly heard. In terms of the music itself, Unfathomable Ruination strike with nine tracks of brutal and technical death metal in the vein of Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus or Nile but with their own touch.
There are tons of fast and technical guitar riffs as well as tempo changes and blast beats that can break your neck. Vocalist Ben Wright demonstrates deep growl that reminds a little bit of Dave Rotten from Spanish Avulsed. The album includes two guest vocalists: Julien Truchan from Benighted and Swen de Caluwe from Aborted. So we have one record that is of highest death metal quality. I must admit that I prefer my death metal much more simple but this is just a matter of personal taste - Unfathomable Ruination obviously consists of very experienced and talented musicians who know what to do with their instruments and how to create interesting sonic passages. 'Defy The Architect' is turning to be my favourite from the whole album but all other tracks are worth hearing!
Unfathomable Ruination are beyond doubt a very talented band and definitely deserve the fans' support. Check this album released on the mighty Willowtip Records!
