Vesperian Sorrow - Stormwinds Of Ages

After a long awaited follow up to their third release, "Regenesis Creation", Vesperian Sorrow throws us into the realm of dark symphonic metal with their album entitled "Stormwinds of Ages". Staying true to their sound, there is no doubt this is a true classic Vesperian Sorrow release of dark black metal and beautifully orchestrated symphonic compositions.

What they bring into the mix with this release is not only some excellent varied song structures but also some fantastic brutal guitar work. Blending a variety of elements into this release including hints of progressive metal with their profound symphonic black metal makes this a creative blend of atmospherically complex metal. Their overlay of slower tempo song styles with the more brutal extreme metal work together to make this one of the best elegant yet brutal albums this year.

The mix and production quality on this release is impressive, especially when you consider this band put such a complex album together on their own. Furthermore, the album brings with it a variety of fantastic guest musicians including Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys--Watchtower--Broken Teeth, brutal death metal vocalist Jon Zig of Sarcolytic--Images of Violence (Zig also created the album artwork), guitar solos by Carl August Tidemann of Winds--Arcturus, as well as powerful vocalist Erika Tandy of Autumn Tears--Ignitor.

Overall, this album is a brutally elegant piece of symphonic composition. This album brings forth an artistic element of beautiful darkness which both calms and ignites a fire within the listener. Truly a musical gem worth checking out.

Unfortunately they have not had any label support as of yet, so while you may not be able to get your hands on this dark little gem yet you can hear the edgy title track in its entirety here: http://www.vesperiansorrow.net
