Wine From Tears - Glad To Be Dead

Wine From Tears are a Russian doom death band who have found a home in this field of powerful emotive field of music. In general terms, people who like this genre will like this band and release; it is very strong for the likeminded individuals amongst you. By all accounts, this music was created for the colder months of the year and I would agree, it is rather a fitting soundtrack to dank cold evenings spent in isolation from the rest of humanity.

There are obvious comparisons to their style like My Dying Bride and whereas fellow label mates such as Abske Fides and Who Dies in Siberian Slush are more funeral death doom styled, this is much more dynamic altogether. The guitar tones are really thought provoking, without having the check-out lyrics, this band provide a soundtrack to actually question your own complex thoughts and feelings. There are clean vocals (obviously) here and there and like the blueprint of this genre Wine From Tears have mastered the art of conveying emotion to the listener. I am not sure I could handle this in a live show, but alone in the comfort of your own surroundings, there is a wealth of swirling movements on offer to take you to places that basic metal music does not. If you want perfect examples dream yourself ‘In Memory of the Truth’ with its almost poetic piano intro, its soothing guitar lines and later on, its crushing heaviness provides a cavalcade of bleakness.

‘Glad To Be Dead’ is very atmospheric if not really cold; you may get a slight shudder when you listen to this release and if you are a fan of doomy atmospheric death metal you will appreciate this one.
