Wintryfrost - Wintryfrost

Wintryfrost is a gothic metal project founded in 2009 by former So Cold guitarist Giorgio Orani. His official MySpace profile says he is constantly developing and evolving as the sole member of Wintryfrost, seeking deeper melody and atmosphere in his quest to expand his musical horizons. Toward this end Orani composes without vocals or lyrics, focusing entirely on pushing the boundaries of his instrumentals. On this entire CD are a few moments with something that resembles a vocal harmony, and even this sounds like an effect created with an instrument, perhaps a string instrument or a keyboard. This is quickly caught up in the five tracks gracing the demo. The songs cover several incarnations of goth metal from the 90s to the present. Within these pieces are a myriad of differing sounds which are not uncommon for the exclusive number of experimental bands, including many black metal, doom metal and electronica artists as well as gothic metal. In contrast to these styles, most of the emphasis is on the variety of keyboards with guitars and drums serving as the musical canvas. A certain balance results from this formula that can have a lasting effect. There are elements throughout that could appeal to fans of Opeth, Burzum and recent Emperor besides most goth metal.
