Wormed – Krighsu

It simply doesn’t get more extreme than this. Spain’s most brutal band Wormed are now on their third album. From what I gather it’s a concept album about a robot alien invasion or something to that effect.

From the get go the band hit you full pelt. They are not messing around this is death metal at its most brutal and most technical. All members are at the peak of their individual performances and the song writing without a doubt pushes the genres envelope in terms of technicality. It has that mechanical feel where everything is locked down to the very last note. It’s a short album, coming in at 34 minutes in total. This is a benefit because there is so much going on it will take a few listens to fully digest everything. There’s a few brief moments like on 'Eukaryotic Hex Swarm' where the band briefly pause with a quiet moment but they soon get back to pummeling your eardrums.

All in all if you like technical death metal you will love this, personally I’d like the songs to have had a bit more breathing space and the vocal’s have that screech going on pig squeal thing going on that so many modern bands do now and especially where the lyrics are so important with the running theme on the album, they would have benefited from being a bit more intelligible but that’s just my personal preference and it’s obvious the band have achieved what they set out to do.

My small grievances aside this will be on a lot of people’s end of year list. If you want a relentless, punishing technical album then look no further, just imagine if Meshuggah did an album of Suffocation covers and there you have it. Enjoy!
